A (Marketing) Week in Review

October 16, 2017

This last week, October 9th—October 13th—might have been the best (or, at least, our favorite) week of the year: Marketing Week. What's not to love about skills workshops, professional speakers, free food, and an office visit?

We spent the last seven days offering (and absorbing) as many marketing resources as possible to truly embody this year's theme: #WhereMarketersAreMade.

Monday | LinkedIn Workshop

Whether you were a freshman unsure how to start your first profile or a senior honing your LinkedIn bullet points before starting the job hunt, Monday was a great time to make sure your online professional presence was top notch. With the help of Exec Team insight, a sheet full of tips and tricks, and some brainstorming, those profiles have never looked better.

Tuesday | Free Doughnuts

Group projects, club responsibilities, deadlines, late nights in the Foster Library—we all know the challenges of being a business student. Sometimes you just need a free doughnut to brighten your day!

Wednesday | Amazon speakers

This Wednesday we welcomed Amazon speakers Kate Fetty, from Channel & Events Marketing, and Julie Parke, from Product Marketing. The two shared their invaluable insights into B2B marketing, how to work your way up to your dream job, and what makes Amazon's marketing so powerful.

Weekly words of wisdom:

“Marketing is becoming increasingly digital, and digital means using data to make decisions.”

Thursday | Resume Writing Workshop

The interactive format of this workshop meant that everyone could gain customized insight on their unique resumes. Biggest takeaways:

• Split your experience into categories so it's easier for hiring managers & recruiters to read!

• Quantify your accomplishments if you can, such as boosting sales or social media followers.

• Be specific.

Friday | Concur Office Visit

As an AMA member, one of the great opportunities you get is our office visits: the chance to network with a company and get a glimpse into their day-to-day life! It's your chance to learn more about the roles available, experience their corporate culture, and meet the people who might be your co-workers or internship supervisors one day.

While Marketing Week might be over, our year of great speakers, workshops, events, and networking is just beginning. Our next event—and first workshop—will be this Wednesday, October 18th, at 6 in Boeing Auditorium. "UW 101: How To College" will offer invaluable tips, tricks, and advice for everyone from freshmen to seniors. You won't want to miss it—RSVP here.

If you're not officially an AMA member yet, what are you waiting for? Gain access to unlimited meetings, workshops, networking opportunities, and our exclusive job/internship database. Learn more (or pay dues) here

See you Wednesday!
